Engine Calculator Plus is a tool created to assist users in determining engine specifications for various types of car or aircraft engines, ranging from inline 4 to V12 configurations.

This calculator offers computations for engine displacement based on both the metric and US standard systems.

The static compression ratio of an engine can be easily determined once you have information on six specific measurements or volumes:

• Bore - The cylinder bore diameter
• Stroke - The distance the piston travels within the cylinder
• Deck Height - The space between the top of the cylinder bore and the top of the piston at TDC
• Piston top volume - Variances in piston design can impact compression ratio
• Combustion chamber volume - The amount of open space in the head above the cylinder

A higher compression ratio within a cylinder results in enhanced power and fuel efficiency. This is achieved not only through increased charge compression and combustion pressure but also due to the higher expansion ratio that allows for more energy extraction from the initial high pressure.

Engines with high compression ratios burn fuel cleaner and more efficiently compared to those with lower compression ratios. While a lower compression engine permits the use of cheaper fuel, it sacrifices efficiency and power output.
